JACKSON, MI — Southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd have canceled their performance at the Jackson County Fair due to COVID-19.
The band announced at 11:51 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, via its Facebook page that they will be unable to perform their next four scheduled shows. Among the performances was one scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 10, as part of the 167th annual Jackson County Fair.
“Longtime band member Rickey Medlocke has tested positive for COVID-19,” Lynyrd Skynyrd posted. “Rickey is home resting and responding well to treatment. We will continue to update you on his condition.”
The show was also meant to be a stop on the band’s farewell tour.
The fair posted on its Facebook page that it is pursuing a replacement act and will make an announcement to that end as soon as possible.
The fair begins Sunday, Aug. 8, and lasts until Saturday, Aug. 14. It is located at 104 W. Ganson St.
Country music artist Toby Keith will kick off the fair’s live music events and perform at 7 p.m. on Aug. 8. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
Keith was set for the 2020 fair; however, his performance was postponed. Those who purchased tickets for the 2020 event will have their tickets honored or refunded, according to the fair’s website.

Contemporary Christian music band MercyMe will also perform at the fair on Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. and doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Formed in 1994, MercyMe’s “I Can Only Imagine” was the first digital single in Christian music history to be certified platinum.
